YAY for jdorama on philippine TV!

finally! it's about time that philippine tv gets a japanese drama! yay for GMA! yay for gokusen! Nakama Yukie as Yamaguchi Kumikowell, i don't know if ABS already showed a jdorama before or if it's planning on getting one soon. but it will be good if the bigwigs decides on a nice one, like strawberry on the shortcake or GTO. i hope nobody shows shinsengumi here because i won't watch it. translating it to filipino will not do justice to the period drama it is. taiga drama like shinsengumi are meant to be watched in the original language because there are a lot of differences and nuances in old and new japanese. kind of what happened to jewel in the palace. i liked it, but the feeling just isn't the same if it isn't in korean. yeah, mamanyim.

anyway, i don't really watch dramas but i love japanese dramas because of the unique stories. unlike the hackneyed love triangles (or squares??) we usually see on chinese or korean dramas (save for a few really good ones like jewel in the palace), japanese dramas usually touch on topics like family life, student life and professional life. a year ago, i was watching this drama on nhk about a grandfather reaching out to his daughter-in-law and grandchildren after his son dies. they had a bit of a falling out after the son marries the girl and they never spoke since. then he finds out about a life-threatening disease he has and decides to make amends with his son's family. i think the english title was 'summer days with grandpa' or something like that.

in the first episode, i thought gokusen was a little too GTO for me. but according to reviews, the only similarity the 2 drama/manga/anime have is the main character being the teacher for the most unruly class in the year. ;) this should be interesting!

FYI: the girl in gokusen, nakama yukie, played sadako in the super hit 'ring 0'. she now has another taiga drama in nhk (the title escapes me):) taiga means 'great river' and taiga dramas are big budget productions with stories based on historical events (like shinsengumi, shown on nhk for the whole of 2004).

also, 'gokusen' cannot be found in any japanese dictionary because there is no such word. it is a contraction of 'gokudo no sensei', which means 'gangster teacher'.

anyway, shinsengumi, a group of samurai loyal to the shogun, has been a subject of a lot of anime as well as fanfiction. rurouni kenshin has many references to the group. for example, sagara sanosuke had a real-life counterpart called harada sanosuke and saitou hajime, the meiji era policeman known for his gatotsu sword technique and his 'aku soku zan' motto (kill evil instantly), existed in the past too. as saitou hajime or fujita goro. surprise, surprise. seta soujiro, who once battled our hero himura kenshin and almost beat him, was okita souji, one of the younger and more brilliant shinsengumi members.

i hope julie yap-daza publishes a filipino version of her highly successful book, manners for moving up. in my opinion, all pinoys must read this book at least once in their lifetimes because we are sorely lacking in manners. people standing on either side of the escalator. people combing their hair inside the jeep/fx/bus. or worse, people picking their noses in public! *shudders at the thought of the booger bus incident*

paging miss julie yap-daza. i hope you can publish this in the vernacular. para walang excuse ang mga pinoy na hindi ito basahin. thank you!

i was cleaning up some of my stuff at home and came across this birthday card given to me by ritchelle for my 24th birthday. then i suddenly remembered the letter she gave me when she left pms. yung letter na sobrang naging hit sa amin at di namin malimutan. kasi sabi nya: pag nagka-boyfriend ako, gusto ko:

- kasing cute ni jervin
- kasing talino ni bry
- kasing bait ni chester

ang lolo chester namin, na-offend kuno ang drama. mabait lang daw ba sya? ganon na lang daw ba ang tingin sa kanya? oo naman, ches! saksakan ka kasi ng bait e! that's all, thank you! e kung ibahin natin. ganito kaya:

- kasing cute ni chester
- kasing talino ni jervin
- kasing bait ni bry

ngik. parang may mali. daming violent reaction a. isa pa nga:

- kasing cute ni bry
- kasing talino ni chester
- kasing bait ni jerv

ay sows! gumulo lalo. dun na lang tayo sa una, ok?
